An interesting and festive "c1925 Birthday Card "for My Husband" Floral Design, Embossed and Sliver Gilt." This wonderful Birthday card measures approx. 5" x 5” (≈12.7 cm x 12.7 cm.) when folded.
The concept of Greeting Cards as we think of them today, were not a "thing" at the beginning of the 20th Century and earlier. What WAS popular was Greeting Postcards. And they were very fancy with lots of gilt and embossed designs. But by the 1920's stationers had "invented" the 4-fold Greeting card with a lovely message on the front and also in the inside.
This Greeting Card is very high quality with not only a satiny, silver-gilt design but also embossed flowers on delicate paper with a beautiful, round floral design attached in the middle of the front.
Inside there is an additional gilt floral arrangement, and a message: "Husband Dear, may you be knowing Only sunlit pleasant ways, And may life be bestowing Many happy glad Birthdays. It is signed Dorothy and Dale.
There is no envelope with this card. Envelopes were not as common in those days. Usually if a person gave a greeting card to a friend, they did it by hand.
Information that came with this card indicated that Dorothy and Thomas Rutter were married in Valley Forge, PA in the early 1920's. We aren't sure if this card was given to him, though it seems likely. Perhaps by the time this card was sent, they had a child.
This unique birthday card is in excellent condition. And there is no wear to the surfaces or the edges. The messages are very clear and easy to read.
Please see all of the photos above to confirm the condition of this Greeting Card. Lovely and inspiring, this "c1925 Birthday Card," is a fantastic addition to any vintage Ephemera collection, and could even be used today. ----------- Be sure to check out our other listings for a number of other Greeting cards and postcards, offered this week and in coming weeks by PENchantiques on eBay
