This is the adrés noise reduction unit AD-3S, released by Aurex (Toshiba's audio brand) in 1979. This is a different color from the AD-3 currently on sale. If you're a former audiophile now over 50 years old, you're probably familiar with the word "Address." It's a Japanese-made noise reduction system developed by Toshiba to compete with Dolby and dbx. If I remember correctly (lol), the only Japanese noise reduction products that made it to the point of commercialization were JVC's ANRS/Super ANRS and Toshiba's adres. That was a long, long time ago.

Product Description
I purchased this used unit without checking its operation, but after checking it, it was powered on and all the indicator lights were lit. I connected it to a cassette deck and it worked for both recording and playback. While many used units have deteriorated components that make it impossible to adjust the level even with the adjustment screw turned all the way, this unit was able to be adjusted without any problems. However, it is unclear whether the performance and characteristics are the same as when it was new. There are a few small scratches on the corners of the panel, but other than that it is in very good condition. This is a product that was not sold in large numbers to begin with, so finding one in this condition is quite rare. For an external noise reduction system to work properly, recording and playback levels must be accurately matched. There is a way to adjust it for that.
