Here is Gaton Hauchecorne (1880-1945), a terracotta subject with an old man seated reading Signed at the base.
Gaston Hauchecorne passed most of his professional life in China where he was a professor at the University of Beijing, consular and diplomat director. He created many terracotta and bronze subjects representing Chinese characters sometimes with a humorous connotation. He exhibited, among other things, at the Marseille colonial exhibition in 1922.
Dimensions: depth 5 1/2": width: 6 1/2" at the elbows, height: 7 1/2"
Condition: a nice patina of time, without incident or repair, traces of seniority, as in the photos.
