Obverse Portrait Of Paul Kruger
Krugerrands take their name from Boer statesman Paul Kruger, who appears on the obverse of this 1992 issue in a bust by Otto Schultz, together with an inscription that reads 'SUID AFRICA SOUTH AFRICA'.
Pronking Springbok 1992 Reverse
The reverse features an image of South Africa's national animal, the springbok, originally designed by Coert Steynberg. The date (1992) is divided on either side, the word 'KRUGERRAND' appears above, with 'FYNGOUD 1OZ FINE GOLD'.
1oz Gold Proof Krugerrand
Proof Krugerrands are made of one troy ounce of fine gold, similar to their more numerous bullion counterparts. These 1992 coins have a total weight of 33.93 grams and measure 32.77 millimetres in diameter from milled edge to milled edge.
How Many 1992 Krugerrands Were Issued?
Published mintage figures indicate that the SA Mint struck 2,067 1oz proof Krugerrands for release in 1992. Unusually, the 1992 bullion issue is actually scarcer, with just 1,803 struck, making this date particularly sought after.
Historic SA Mint Collectors Coin
This highly collectable pre-owned coin is supplied in its original fitted red leather presentation case from the South African Mint, with the old coat of arms of South Africa on the lid in gold.
