Traditional Japanese crafts familiar to us such as Nambu ironware

This is a iron kettle of Nambu ironware made in the Mizusawa area of Oshu City Iwate Prefecture.

Nambu ironware made from cast iron has a rugged and heavy appearance as its characteristic feature.

Therefore if used carefully this durable cooking utensil can be used for generations developing a wonderful taste as it is used.

One of the reasons Nambu ironware is famous is for its health benefits from the release of iron. The iron released from the ironware is absorbed by the body and is effective in preventing anemia.

Ironware also absorbs the minerals in water making it a welcomed item for tea and coffee enthusiasts. Despite being a bit heavy it can be a useful gear for camping enhancing the experience of coffee time in outdoor settings.

Iron kettles and other iron cooking utensils have a heat retention feature once heated making them useful in cold weather as well.

While ironware exudes a strong and traditional Japanese presence it can also blend well with current home interiors adding a sense of tradition to everyday life. Incorporating Japanese traditional items into daily life seems to evoke a sense of dedication from the user and a feeling of leisurely time.

■ How to use an iron kettle

When you first start using it:

Boil water with mineral water to create water stains on the surface to help prevent rust. Gradually as water stains start to form every day after about two weeks the stains would be complete.

Cleaning:

Empty the hot water while the kettle is still warm then dry the inside using the residual heat of the kettle. It is okay to dry it out by boiling water while it is still moist but it should be done for a short period. Avoid excessive dry firing as it may cause damage. Do not clean it using a sponge scrubber detergent or touch the inside directly.

This iron kettle is of a traditional style. It efficiently performs the basic task of boiling water enriching our lives with tools that lead to a more fulfilling life. Rather than being old or new it is a lovely kitchenware that you would want to cherish... A Lot Of Living To Do.'
