Arrested Development is a critically acclaimed sitcom created by Mitchell Hurwitz, originally airing from 2003 to 2006 on Fox and later revived by Netflix. Known for its sharp writing, layered jokes, and intricate callbacks, the show follows the dysfunctional Bluth family as they spiral into chaos after losing their wealth and status — largely due to the shady dealings of their own family business: the Bluth Company.

At the center of the show is Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman), the only relatively sane member of the Bluth family. After the arrest of his father, George Bluth Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor), for white-collar crimes including fraud, embezzlement, and possibly treason, Michael reluctantly takes over the Bluth Company, a once-successful real estate development firm. Tasked with keeping the company — and his ungrateful, spoiled family — from total collapse, Michael struggles to be the adult in a family full of children, both literal and emotional.

The Bluth Family:
* Lucille Bluth (Jessica Walter): The martini-loving, manipulative matriarch.
* George Oscar "G.O.B." Bluth (Will Arnett): The arrogant and talentless magician eldest son.
* Lindsay Bluth Fünke (Portia de Rossi): Michael’s self-absorbed twin sister.
* Buster Bluth (Tony Hale): The sheltered youngest son with mother issues and a missing hand.
* George Michael Bluth (Michael Cera): Michael’s awkward and earnest teenage son.
* Maeby Fünke (Alia Shawkat): Lindsay’s rebellious and entrepreneurial daughter.
* Tobias Fünke (David Cross): Lindsay’s clueless husband, a “never-nude” with acting dreams.

The Bluth Company is a central plot device — a symbol of both the family's wealth and their ethical rot. Originally a real estate development empire built by George Sr., it’s later revealed to be riddled with financial mismanagement, criminal fraud, and shady dealings with Middle Eastern governments. Throughout the series, the company faces audits, investigations, and bankruptcy, becomes the target of SEC and FBI probes, and is used by nearly every family member for personal schemes, from building fake houses to hiding secrets in model homes. Michael tries to keep it afloat while preserving the family’s name, but often finds himself undermined by the very people he’s trying to help.

Arrested Development satirizes corporate greed, privilege, political corruption, and family dysfunction through its absurd storylines and deadpan delivery. It became a cult classic thanks to its: Running gags, smart, layered storytelling, and mockumentary style and use of Ron Howard as the show’s narrator (and eventual character).

Whether they’re mismanaging a banana stand, staging fake charity events, or committing international business crimes, the Bluths prove time and again that they’re "the family who lost everything — and the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together." The Bluth Company may have been corrupt, but the comedy it built is undeniably golden.
