China Map - Villes de la Province de Chensi, Bellin 1748

Description:
This rare antique copperplate map depicts two town plans in the province of Shanxi, China, including Si-Ngan-Fu and Tchouang Lan (Chwang Lan). Created by the esteemed French cartographer Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 1772), this map captures the early urban geography of this Chinese region. Bellin, one of the most important French cartographers of the 18th century, served as the Royal Hydrographer and was a member of both the Académie de Marine and the Royal Society of London. His maps were widely recognized for their accuracy and detail, particularly those created for the Ministère de la Marine.
