Title of the view:

"PRESBURCH"

Unusual antique copper engraved view of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, with its ancient name Pressburg, by Petrus Bertius.

The city is shown from across a river, the Danube river. At left, is the Pressburg castle. The city itsel is densely packed with: pointed church spires, clustered townhouses, fortified walls and gates, indicative of a medieval urban structure. The hills in the background are heavily wooded or cultivated with wineyards, typical of the region's geography. Three people (possibly women) in period attire are standing and sitting near the riverbank, adding a human element and scale to the scene.
