VTG Israel Freeman Silver Plate Holder w/ Two Crystal Cruets & Stoppers - Italy

This cruet set is from my late parents' house that was built in 1947.  I can remember it used for special meals as far back as 1960.

It is identical to "Vintage Israel Freeman Silver Plate Cruet Set" that I found on 1stDibs in its same dimensions and same embossed Italy/hallmark.  The 1stDibs one has a worn, small, rectangular IFS sticker under the base while this one has a little glue residue at that same sticker location.

There are five components: two cut crystal cruets with conforming stoppers and a silver plated holder for the two bottles and two stoppers. 

The 1stDibs description notes "rotating holder for the bottles."  The holder has a long connecting bolt.  When this long connecting bolt is not fully tightened the holder can rotate 360 degrees. 

A strong magnet only adheres to the connecting bolt.  The other metal parts are silver-plated brass, bronze, copper or another non-magnetic metal. 

The holder has a nice faint, uniform patina.  The 1stDibs one looks partly polished with a less uniform patina.  

The diameter of one stopper is slightly smaller.  That stopper falls through either stopper holder as shown in the upside down cruet photo. That stopper weighs about 42.5 grams and the other about 43.5 grams.  The 1stDibs one shows both stoppers properly held in the stopper holders.  Keeping the ruler near the same cruet (on the left), I took two photos showing the position of the switched stoppers in the mouth of each cruet.  The lighter stopper sits slightly lower in the mouth of either cruet.  

Using a magnifying loop, I do not see any flaws in the glass.  The stoppers and cruet mouths are either frosted or lightly scratched at the connection.  The 1stDibs one looks the same.

   Overall height: 9 1/8 in.

   Width between holders: 7 1/8 in.

   Width at base: 3 5/8 in.

   Overall weight: 2 pounds 7.4 ounces 

   Cruet weights without stoppers: 7.7 ounces and 7.8 ounces

   Holder weight: 1 pound 4.9 ounces

   Cruet volume: 5 fluid ounces each

Israel Freeman & Son Ltd IFS

Working in London at the beginning of the 20th century and moving to New York City in the 1920s. The company was still in business in NYC in 2006 and being run by a mother/daughter team. According to their website (now closed), the mother/daughter are descendants of Isaac Freeman and, at the time, were still selling small silver items.

Comments suggest that IFS were registered as silver and silver-plate dealers, not silversmiths.
