Large unusual antique copper engraved map of Greece, with Crete and the Aegean islands, by Justus Danckerts. The map extends to Albania and Macedonia in the north.

Justus Danckerts (1635-1701) is a Dutch printmaker and publicist. A member of the Danckerts family from which several painters, engravers and publicists came, he specializes in geographical maps and atlases. Born in Amsterdam, he is the son of Cornelis Danckerts I (1603-1656) who opened a family mapping business in this same city. After having published more than 20 atlases, he publishes in 1686-1687 the first Danckerts atlas and a second one in 1690. Many of his maps were used until the mid-18th century. He died in Amsterdam in 1701. His sons, Theodorus Danckerts I (1663-1727) and Cornelis Danckerts II (1664-1717), will be recognized engravers and printers in the field of cartography.
