EDIE ADAMS - DRESS UNSIGNED - HFSID 282736
EDIE ADAMS
Cream colored twill dress designed by James Galanos, obtained from the estate of the late Ernie Kovacs and his recently deceased widow, Edie Adams
Dress, unsigned. A heavy, cream-colored twill street length dress, the front placket covering the four hooks and six covered snap closure. Six top stitched lines extend along the lapel and to the hem, the same detailing repeated on the belt with a large gold buckle. This dress, designed by James Galanos, was sold to Edie Adams by Amelia Gray, owner of a boutique on Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles. It was part of the Ernie Kovacs/Edie Adams estate. Singer and comedian EDIE ADAMS (1927-2008), born Elizabeth Edith Enke in Kingston, Pennsylvania, appeared on TV's popular Ernie Kovacs Show in the early 1950s, and married Kovacs in 1954 (the couple was married until his death in 1962). Known to television audiences for her commercials for Muriel Cigars, she also appeared in several feature films, including The Apartment (1960) and The Best Man (1964). Adams, who received a Tony Award as Daisy Mae in Li'l Abner (1955), portrayed Mae West in a TV biography of her late husband, Ernie Kovacs: Between the Laughter (1984). James Galanos (b. 1925) was an award-winning fashion designer whose clients included First Lady Nancy Reagan. Galanos' "ready to wear" dresses started at $300 in the early 1960s. Soiled and discolored at neckline.
