YVARAL - Jean Pierre Vasarely
Horizon I (Gold)
ABOUT THE ARTIST- Jean-Pierre Yvaral (1934–2002), professionally known simply as Yvaral, was a distinguished French artist celebrated for his contributions to Kinetic Art and Op Art. The son of Victor Vasarely—a seminal figure in the Op Art movement—Yvaral was profoundly shaped by the artistic legacy and visual language of his father. His oeuvre is characterized by geometric abstraction, optical illusions, and a sophisticated exploration of color and spatial dynamics. Yvaral frequently deconstructed figurative imagery into intricate abstract forms, creating visually engaging compositions that challenged perception. He was a co-founder of the Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel (GRAV), a collective dedicated to experimental and participatory visual art. In 1975, he introduced the term “numerical art” to describe his pioneering use of algorithmic processes in the creation of digital and computational artwork.
