Seaside Herbarium Collection – Antique Algae Prints from Peterhead, Scotland (1833–1853)

Discover the delicate beauty of the ocean with the Seaside Herbarium Collection, a unique series of prints featuring authentic antique herbarium specimens of dried marine algae. These specimens were originally collected along the coastal shores of Peterhead, Scotland between 1833 and 1853 by E.L. Avline, as part of a rare Victorian-era collection titled "Treasures of the Deep, Volume 1."

Each seaweed specimen was meticulously pressed, dried, and mounted with handwritten titles in ink, preserving not only the fragile forms of these marine plants but also the personal touch of 19th-century botanical collecting. These artworks capture the intricate structures and subtle color variations of sea algae, showcasing their natural elegance.
