Vintage Large Royal Doulton Toby Mug. William Shakespeare.  D6689. Stamped 1982. Measures 8" in tall by 7" wide. Excellent condition free of any defects. Part of a toby collection. Shakespeare (1564-1616) was born in Stratford-upon-Avon. Apparently he moved to London in 1585 and by 1582 had emerged as a promising actor and playwright. He became the new owner of the Globe Theatre as a playwright, director, poet, and actor. He was said to have been quite wealthy by the time he returned to Stratford in 1613.
