matrices were used to make wooden types. Artisans stamped the
impression of matrices on a wood sheet of 0.918 inches in height.
(This
is the standard size of letterpress types.)
After stamping, the artisan
engraved wood in design and size of the font in reverse. And wood type
ready to print. These handmade wooden and rubber matrices are now unique
as these were made in limited quantity to create types in the past for
wooden letterpress type makers.
