Condition Guide:
UNC - Uncirculated. New coins taken from sealed bags/rolls. These are shiny and new but may have small imperfections on close inspection.
CIRC - Circulated. Used/handled coins. These have all been checked to ensure they are still good quality.
PAINT MISSING - Due to factory printing issues, these coins may have some coloured paint missing/flaking although they are fresh from bags/rolls. This issue is consistent with the entire release.
The 2023 CommBank Matildas $2 coin was released to celebrate and commemorate the Australian national women's football team, the Matildas, and their preparations for the FIFA Women's World Cup. It was a collaboration between Football Australia and the Royal Australian Mint, with the coins being distributed exclusively through Woolworths.
Purpose:
The coins were designed to allow fans to show their support for the Matildas and celebrate their achievements.
Design:
Each coin features a coloured circle encompassing a football and the team's year of establishment, 1978. The obverse side also features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by British engraver Jody Clark, including her years of reign (1952-2022).
Distribution:
The coins were available exclusively at Woolworths Supermarkets and were to be collected as part of regular change, while stocks lasted.
Colour Variations:
There were three different colour rings: light green, dark green, and yellow.
Timing:
The release was timed to coincide with the Matildas' preparations for the FIFA Women's World Cup, with Woolworths releasing a new coin design each week over a three-week period.
