The map is engraved by Pierre Tardieu.

Pierre Lapie (1777-1850) was a French colonel, cartographer and engraver. As officer in the French army, he joined the corps of geographer engineers in 1799 and made several campaigns for the Consulate and the First Empire. Captain in 1800, he was responsible for the major topographical works. Appointed director of the surveying cabinet of King Louis XVIII in 1814, he was promoted to chief of squadron in 1819. Director of the survey and then the production of the map of France, he was made lieutenant-colonel in 1829. Appointed head of the topographic section of the War Depot in 1830, he was promoted to the rank of colonel of staff in 1832 and retired in September 1838. Colonel Lapie is a Chevalier de Saint-Louis and an officer of the Legion of Honour. Author of earth globes, atlases and maps, he contributes to numerous books. He is the father of Alexandre Emile Lapie, also a cartographer, with whom he collaborated.
