Selmer Large Bore Alto Saxophone SN:13447 on bell and 5447 on body BA US Engraving on offer. This Large Bore is playing great on mid-life tan leather pads with domed resonators. The engraving is Selmer US/Elkhart engraving, but was likely done after initial production. The engraving features a lake/boat scene typical of the later production Balanced Action model along with BA type floral scroll work as well. Looks great!
The horn body and neck are straight with some evidence of past dent work (dings still present on neck) and body resolder work. The remaining lacquer is mostly worn off to bare brass but the engraving is crisp.
Information on this individual horn per reknowned Selmer Historian Douglas Pipher (not involved at all in this sale):
"Selmer 13447 is a US-market Large-Bore Alto which shipped from Selmer Paris in November 1930. It was engraved, lacquered and set up in Elkhart, Indiana.
Selmer Paris shipped roughly 550 Altos to the US in 1931.
The more elaborate engraving suggests that perhaps this instrument was engraved later. I have photos of several SSS saxes which have this style of engraving, but it seems that they shipped from France in 1936. I wish I had a solid answer for you regarding the engraving."
This large bore alto body/neck/body cap will ship secure without a case.. Thanks for looking at the listing and feel free to ask any questions.
