A scarce piece by Mary Livermore (1820-1905), an American nurse, abolitionist, and women’s rights advocate who produced a variety of written works throughout her lifetime. During the war, she spent much of her time connected with the United States Sanitary Commission, and helped expand their focus and work across the country.
