* Description
One of the most compelling of all the many recordings of Tannhäuser, this is the world's first SACD release of one of Convitto's finest opera recordings!
This classic 1960 recording, featuring a full cast, has been beautifully restored.
Of the not many stereo recordings of opera by Konwitschny, this “Tannhäuser” from the old EMI label, which is highly regarded alongside the “The Flying Dutchman” from the same period, is a timeless classic that goes beyond simply evoking the good old days of Germany.
The master tapes from that time have been maintained in good condition to the present day, and you will be surprised by the clarity of the sound quality, which is almost as if it were a recent recording.
The SACD and CD layers were mastered separately using a master that was digitized at 192kHz/24bit from the original analog master tape in the country of origin.
