Cousin Eddie Johnson (Randy Quaid) gets fired from his job at a nuclear research facility just before Christmas. But when a laboratory monkey bites hapless Eddie, his soon-to-be-former boss sends Eddie's entire family on a South Pacific vacation in the hope that Eddie won't sue. But instead of finding a tropical paradise, the hapless family and their pretty tour guide are shipwrecked and stranded on a deserted island.
