■ The rim width of the NEW WHEEL is made by the flow forming method.
There are two general methods for manufacturing aluminum wheels: casting and forging.
Casting is a method in which molten aluminum alloy is poured into a mold to mold the entire wheel as a single unit. While casting has the advantages of high design freedom and mass production at low cost, it is necessary to ensure a certain thickness due to strength issues, making it heavier than forging.
On the other hand, forging is done by applying pressure to the aluminum material with a high-pressure press and forcing it into a mold. Due to the nature of the manufacturing method, the aluminum particles become dense, making it possible to finish the wheel as a strong and light wheel. However, since the aluminum is crushed and molded, there is a limit to the freedom of design. Another disadvantage is that it is costly because it goes through several manufacturing processes. The flow forming method adopted by 326POWER this time combines the advantages of casting and forging. In flow forming, the disc surface and rim part are first cast. Then, the rim part is spun to stretch it to the minimum necessary thickness.
As a result, the density of the aluminum material has increased, and metal flow has been achieved that is close to that of forged wheels. This makes it possible to create rims with high strength and rigidity. In addition, the disc surface is cast, ensuring freedom of design. The rim thickness can be made thinner, making it lighter, which contributes to reducing the unsprung load.
