This is an extremely small motion sensor board based on the Invensense MPU6050, which contains a 3-axis accelerometer and a 3-axis gyroscope. It is a very popular device for controlling multirotor aircraft, camera stabilization gimbals, flying toys and hobby projects. The small size of this board makes it easier than others to deploy in many applications, and it weighs just 0.5g.
Rather than header pins, the board features a miniature 4-way JST SH-series socket, for which a matching 30cm ultra flexible silicone lead is included. The other end can be plugged into the same type of socket (part number SM04B-SRSS-TB), as fitted to many camera gimbal controllers. Alternatively the plug can be cut off and the wires terminated with header pins, a Dupont connector, or simply soldered to the main circuit board.
The sensor board includes a LM6206N3 3.3V regulator, and a blue power LED. As on similar boards, I2C level shifters are not included, so when interfacing to a 5V system they will need to be added. Please contact us for details of a simple design for these. Alternatively as a workaround, the 3.3V regulator can be bypassed (the connection indicated in red on the dimensions photo). The board can then be run at 5V without harming the regulator or the sensor. Although the latter has a recommended operating supply range from 2.375V to 3.46V, it is rated to withstand a supply voltage up to 6V, and in practice seems to work on 5V perfectly well. Note that the regulator has virtually zero dropout so it does not need be bypassed when running on less than 3.3V.
