Description  (ph20)

  • The Malaussène Saga is a novel cycle by Daniel Pennac featuring professional scapegoat Benjamin Malaussène and many characters from his entourage in the Parisian neighborhood of Belleville.

"Mr. Malaussène, final bouquet of the series, is a real fireworks display. Malaussene is involved in two criminal cases simultaneously"

  • Daniel Pennac retains from his childhood a nostalgia for the home and a tenderness for the family of choice. While his writings are funny and full of unbridled imagination, Pennac can also write Like a Novel, an essay on active, lucid, and enthusiastic pedagogy, in which he presents what he calls "The Reader’s Imprescriptible Rights."

Hence Pennac's audience: children, teens, middle-cultural readers, who are put off by academic criticism or specialty reading. Like a novel castigates it glosses out and claims the anarchic intervention of the reader (including at school), who has the right to skip pages, not finish the book and indefinitely reread the passages he likes, frolic in history and talk about it freely to increase pleasure. In short: the right formula for the novelist is to provoke immersion in the imagination, in a narrative tinged with humor, kind populism and sometimes dreamlike, clearly marked by simple sentences.
