Hardcover, bound in pictorial light brown cloth, titled in gilt on the front cover and the spine with a color caricature illustration of an African-American girl on the front cover. The covers are bumped, rubbed and slightly soiled. 100 pages with the text in dialect, illustrated with 14 full-page plates and numerous vignettes of African-Americans by Clifford K. Berryman in the caricature style of the period. The text block is cracked, plate 87 is detached, pages 33/34 are misbound after page 36 and several of the signatures (i.e. group of pages) are pulled. Good.
