This mask was created by the Baule people of Côte d'Ivoire. The mask features scarification patterns, shown as raised designs on the cheeks. The facial features themselves serve as important adornments like the high, arched forehead (a mark of beauty), combined with delicately carved narrow eyes, small refined lips and a graceful elongated nose. The four horns symbolize power and spiritual force. The finish and beautiful patina of the wood display a slightly smooth surface that has developed over time through ritual use and handling. Dimensions: 16” x 8” x 5” inches
