A fine and impressive antique 1.10 carat diamond and synthetic ruby, 14 Karat Yellow Gold three-stone/trilogy ring; part of our diverse gemstone ring collection
Description
This impressive antique diamond and ruby ring has been crafted in 14K Yellow Gold.
The simple pierced decorated multi-claw setting displays a central old round cut natural synthetic ruby* flanked by two Old European round cut diamonds.
The elevated, flared ring shoulders integrate with the claw setting and blend seamlessly with the plain 14K Yellow Gold hallmarked ring shank.
The hallmarks include the 14K Gold mark (14K), gold guarantee mark (crown) and lion passant hallmark.
This fine and impressive antique synthetic ruby ring is supplied with two independent IDGL diamond grading report certificates, one for each diamond, in addition to the IDGL diamond grading report card shown.
NOTE: In 1837 Gaudin made the first synthetic rubies by fusing potash alum at a high temperature with a little chromium as a pigment. Natural rubies and synthetic rubies look very similar on general observation. Synthetic rubies have a different internal color banding and crystal structure which can only be identified under specific test conditions.
Contrary to what many people may think, the word 'synthetic' does not mean fake when it comes to gemstones. In order for a material to be called 'synthetic' it must have a natural counterpart. A synthetic ruby will have the same chemical composition as a natural ruby and therefore have an almost identical appearance to the naked eye.
The first ruby formed by melting two smaller rubies together was in 1817, and the first microscopic crystals created from alumina in a laboratory in 1837.
Common practice was to set and enhance fine quality antique jewelry with vibrant and colorful synthetic stones.
Images do not always reflect the true color and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual color and showcases each stone.
ConditionThis antique trilogy ring is fine quality, set with very high color graded, very high clarity graded diamonds and a synthetic ruby.
The antique ruby ring is in excellent condition with very clear hallmarks to the interior of the shank.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique jewelry.
