According to the Travelers Record by Travelers Insurance Companies - 1892 "The New York and Baltimore Land and Improvement Company is a rank swindle just exposed by the New York Sun. It professed to be incorporated under the laws of Maryland, and to sell ten-year " debenture certificates" giving title to lands " half-way between Baltimore and Washington."
