Vallauris pottery is produced in Vallauris, a small town on the French Riviera. This town has a rich history of pottery-making, dating back centuries, but it gained international recognition in the mid-20th century due to its revival as a hub of artistic and creative ceramics.
Vallauris experienced a renaissance in the mid-20th century when Pablo Picasso moved there in 1946.
Picasso, fascinated by ceramics, collaborated with the Madoura pottery workshop run by Georges and Suzanne Ramié. He created thousands of unique ceramic pieces that blurred the lines between art and functional pottery, bringing worldwide attention to Vallauris.
Picasso’s presence also attracted other renowned artists and potters, turning Vallauris into a thriving center of artistic experimentation
