The Donetsk toy factory (later renamed the factory) was launched in 1973. When the Ministry of Light Industry of the USSR decided the question of exactly where to organize such an enterprise, Donetsk was chosen for a reason. Since it was necessary to employ thousands of women who, according to the decree, were taken out of the mines here. The DFI was equipped with the most advanced equipment, and at that time it became the largest toy enterprise in the Soviet Union and one of the largest in Europe. The assortment of its products reached 950 items. These were all kinds of toys: soft-stuffed, dolls, technical toys, designers, toy soldiers, etc. The factory had its own artists and technologists, a design bureau and a laboratory. Before any DFI toy hit the counter, it was tested for toxicity for at least six months, whether it was light, not sharp, and what emotions it could cause in a child were evaluated. In the best years, up to 5 thousand workers of 60 professions worked here.
