Julia Wigier, 42, an experienced profiler who has solved many high-profile cases, plans to spend her vacation with her son at his father's in the Augustów Lake District.

When Julia heads to Augustów, a crime is committed in the area. On a hot day, an injured woman runs in panic through the forest, and when she reaches the road, she falls dead right under the wheels of a drunk postman riding his bicycle. The man recognizes her as Anna Janonis, the 36-year-old daughter of the old forester Szułowicz.

The case is being handled by Commissioner Karol Nadzieja, who was disciplinarily “exiled” from the capital to the Augustów police station.

The traces lead the police to the Szułowicz forester's lodge. The investigators’ attention is drawn to an unnatural silence: not even a leaf moves, not a bird sings, not a dog barks.

When police enter the house, they find a gruesome sight.

The investigation continues.
