MN Cars have been growing their reputation with their high quality licensed RC vehicles. As a budget series, MN Models provides an affordable entry into rock-crawling, whilst expanding the ownership experience by offering an extensive choice of parts and upgrades for their models. Start with the basic model, then order the upgrades you want to build a fully customised, high-performance model. MN Models are not just toys, they offer an experience in learning how individual components function, how to install, maintain and upgrade them.

MN Models share a general design between models, but we have specified differences where appropriate. The guidance below is based on our experience with the brand, having carried out various projects to become more familiar with their potential. Whether changing the wheels, upgrading the electronics, or even converting an MN82 into a monster truck, we have done it, so feel free to ask for advice!

Suspension

The MN82 has a light chassis so only required basic suspension with standards shocks at the front and with leaf spring suspension at the rear. Upgrading the front if worthwhile and looks great, but we only recommend changing the leaf spring setup if you plan to use heavy cargo loads, due to how stiff it will become. You will need a single pair of shock mounts for the front upgrade.

The MN90-99 and MN168 models feature more advanced shock components. They can be upgraded with either of our spring sets. The hydraulic versions are larger and stiffer, so offer a firmer and more stable ride where these models can feel top heavy. The basic spring sets have less resistance, so provide a more visible 'crawler' experience at slow speeds. The MN168 requires heavy duty shock and dampers. You will require a full set of suspension mounts and both shock versions can be altered with our range of suspension oils in our store.

The MN90-99 kit includes mounting plates, but these may require cutting into the shell. The MN99/98s models are compatible with our metal suspension mounts and provide a perfect fitment.

Axles

Metal driveshafts and prop-shafts are more durable, smoother and the added weight reduces a top-heavy setup. The standard driveshafts are a metal replica of the original design with a 4mm shaft bore, so you may need copper sleeves as provided with our metal prop-shafts. The ball joint versions provide improved performance, but need to be lubricated with our lithium grease packs. Please use our guide to identify the shaft length you need.

Metal axles pair well with a metal pull rod kit. When adding weight, consider upgrading the electrical components to improve power consumptions. We stock more powerful motors, servos and batteries for greater performance.

Motors

The standard 280 motors are limited, particularly with heavier, upgraded models. Our 370 motors make a significant difference in speed and torque, and fit snugly within the original shells. We provide these with a full metal transmission unit, making them an easy plug + play upgrade. We leave the standard power cables detached, so you can either use these, or attach cables suitable for a customer build.

The 130 motors in MN90 models are particularly lacking, but due to the older chassis design, these require a cross-assembly motor design.

We stock third-party motors in our store for a greater range of torque and speed options. Please consider the dimensions of these units with your project as you may need to workaround this.

Electricals

The Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) is the central control unit of your RC model and responsible for power distribution across all your devices. The MN82 and MN90 are fitted with a customised motherboard, with micro-JST/HP connectors, that have limited upgrade potential. Our store holds ESC upgrade kits and conversion harnesses to convert these boards into a more standardised JR connector. We also offer more advanced Transmitter and Receiver kits, available in 4, 6 or 8 channels, maximising the potential of our RC models.

The MN168 and MN128 are feature standardised 4CH receiver units, which can be swapped out with a similar unit more easily.

NOTE: Batteries for replacements and upgrades can no longer be sold on eBay, so our stock is only available through our website.

Wheels

Heavier wheels and wheel spacers provide a wider wheel base and greater balance, ideal for the top-heavy MN90 and MN168 series. We offer extensions from the stock 5mm hub size to 12mm hubs, giving you a range of upgrade options.

Soft tyres can be enhanced with our foam inserts.

When considering larger wheels, consider your arch size for clearance and review our body lift kits.
