The Ring, which was said to be a miraculous recording as the only complete live performance by the maestro, was first released on SACD in 2016.
Despite the high price, this box set, which sold out in a relatively short period of time and was in high demand for re-presses, is being re-released in a limited edition at a substantial discount, although this time it does not include the lyrics.
The 72-page booklet, which includes a musical commentary and synopsis, is well worth reading.
When King Records released the Italian company Cetra's imported LPs (in 1983), the sound quality was so good that it was hard to believe that the recordings were live recordings from 1950, and it caused quite a stir.
King Records released the first CD version of the recordings in 1986, using the analog master tapes (2 tracks & 38cm/sec, 36 volumes) that they had ordered from the production company (DISCOS, Milano) that had made the reprint recordings.
In 2016, after 30 years, the latest remastering was done at King Sekiguchi-dai Studio, and it was released as the world's first SACD, using direct DSD conversion from the master tape, and it sold out in no time.
The legendary performance and recording of Furtwängler, recorded in 2 channels by RAI (Italian Broadcasting Corporation), will be vividly revived this autumn, 70 years after the death of the maestro, in a joint project by Tower Records and King International.
