AL-AZRAQ (Bravery). His origins are located in the north of Arabia,
Syria or Iraq, since his tribe (Hudhay), like Abderraman (the Umayyads)
came from those territories. His birth is estimated to have been around
1280. Descended from a noble family, he was educated in Arabic culture
and in the art of war as required in his times. He was fluent in several
languages; he had his kingdom of taifas being governor or vizier of
numerous castles north of Alicante and his headquarters in the castle of
AL-QAL-A. He kept the Christian invaders in check in defense of their
lands and their ancestors, until they could not resist. In 1250 he
signed a treaty with King James I, protecting all its inhabitants
through it. Faced with the constant non-compliance with treaties by the
Christians, he returned, although already older, dying in combat at the
gates of AL-CORA, currently (Alcoy), in 1278.
