Description
Ukrainian Canadians have brought with them from their native land a wealth of their culture with truly priceless treasures of a tangible character as well as intangible spiritual values. Their music, choral performances, poetry, folk art, dances, and rituals are cherished by them.
In a similar manner their enthusiasm for their own native dishes never wanes. With the rapid process of assimilation and integration of recent years, it has become necessary to make a compilation of these treasured native recipes in the English language and to make them readily accessible to those who have lost their mother tongue.
This book, the first of its kind in Canada, is an attempt to preserve for posterity the Ukrainian way of cooking. The style of this book departs somewhat from the standard way of writing a cookbook. Along with the old-world recipes brought up-to-date, there is a brief portrayal of a way of life of the Ukrainian people, giving a chronicle of customs, traditions and ceremonies. It has been compiled for the benefit of the Canadian-born Ukrainians who often ask for information about the background of their ancestors.
