In poor condition. As is. Dust jackets were previously glued onto paste-downs via fore-edges of jacket flaps (most likely by ex-library). Dust jackets were taped along all fore-edges & covered in protective plastic. Ex-library ink stamps + black marker to cross out ink stamps found on all top edges of text-blocks. Ex-library locator code stickers found on all tails of dust jacket’s spines. Ex-library marginalia and permanent stamps found on all bottom edges of title pages. Text-blocks exhibit light toning, mostly at edges of leaves. Ex-library barcode sticker, envelope & card catalogue pasted-on to rear paste-downs. Bindings intact. Please see photos and ask questions, if any, before purchasing.
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 – 1882), who went by his middle name Waldo, was an American essayist, lecturer, philosopher, abolitionist, and poet who led the Transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century. He was seen as a champion of individualism and critical thinking, as well as a prescient critic of the countervailing pressures of society and conformity. Friedrich Nietzsche thought he was "the most gifted of the Americans," and Walt Whitman called him his "master".
