These five works are reissues of five historic titles left behind by Miles Davis's Columbia label, which was at the height of its popularity in the 1950s and 1966, when modern jazz was at its most prosperous, and which was a leader in that movement.

This box set is packed with the appeal of Miles Davis's heyday, from small ensembles to orchestras.

A box set of five classic albums tracing the path of Miles Davis as he explored new forms of modern jazz. In 1955, Miles Davis signed a recording contract with the major Columbia label.

This is where his career as a great jazz and popular musician began.

As the first recording under the contract, he recorded 'Round About Midnight' with the Golden Quintet.

From there, he continued his meteoric rise, devoting himself to the pursuit of the "modal approach", a new modern jazz style that would come after hard bop.

Two of his performances with the combo from the 1950s have been selected here, and in addition, two of his orchestral collaborations with the jazz genius and renowned arranger Gil Evans, which were being carried out simultaneously, have also been included in the lineup.

Then, in the 1960s, he formed what was known as the second golden quintet,

one recording of a performance of ultra-modern "mode jazz" by a group of up-and-coming young musicians.

Here we have a record of ten years of the musician who was number one in both ability and leadership during the period when jazz was at its most powerful.
