Hailing from England comes another band from the lesser known side of the NWOBHM scene, known as Bashful Alley. They only really lasted for about four years, from 1980 - 1984, releasing nothing but demos in that time frame. It's About Time is nothing more than a compilation of those songs that never really broke the surface.
The playing style is rather simplistic and has a sound that blends in perfectly with the NWOBHM bands of the time. Specifically, they use slower paced riffs, and more mellow licks and cuts than anything. Of course, there are different ranges of guitar work on here, from the soft intro of "Running Blind", to the guitar tapping melodies on "My My My". The solos are fairly slow, yet have a groove to them that sound beautiful. There isn't really any shredding or deep heavy riffs, just a typical sound from the bands of the late '70s. The rest of the instrumentation plays nothing more than something to keep the pace, as the bass hardly exists and the drums don't push any limits. Vocal work is fairly strong, but nothing that significantly stands out. Not a hint of aggression or anger behind it, and like the instrumentation, it leans towards the more mellow side of heavy metal. It doesn't go for any crazy ranges, but the singing certainly isn't bad by any means.
The best thing that I could compare this to is the first Def Leppard album On Through The Night. "Running Blind" is definitely a standout track that I view as exceptional. While the rest is pretty good musically, nothing else stands out to great extremes. It's worth checking out if you want something simplistic and mellow, but with fun licks and an overall early metal sound.
Sodom, Raven, Wolf, Anvil, Metallica, Motorhead, Blitzkrieg, Running Wild, Satan, Judas Priest, Anthrax, Saxon, Aragorn, Ethel the Frog, Crucifixion, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Testament, and Jaguar is a must-have for any metal enthusiast. With a speed of 33 RPM, this record is released under High Roller Records and has a cardboard sleeve with a black color.
The LP is in mint condition and has a duration of 12". It falls under the Heavy Metal, Gothic Metal, Industrial Metal, Metalcore, Death Metal, British Metal/NWOBHM, Doom/Sludge Metal, Glam/Hair Metal, Black/Gothic Metal, and Folk Metal styles. This vinyl record is a great addition to any music collection and a perfect gift for all metal fans.
