The calibrated M-Spectrometer is an advanced SMA series model that offers superior sensitivity to light with a monochrome detector of the 350-890nm wavelength range.
The actual model has 1200 Pixels and more than 2.5 times more sensitive than the SMA-E Spectrometer model. With much better sensitivity in the UV range.

It has a 100um slit (optional : 50, 100 or 200µm) in addition to the SMA905 connector. So, both modes are possible, you can use it with our the optical fiber, just direct the slit to the light source, or better, attache the optical fiber and collecte the light. The spectrometer is sold with no optical fiber.
You can also connect the second end of the optical fiber to a collimator (the we sell on ebay also, a Thorlab part that we sell at a high discount price)

The resolution is less than 1nm as youcan see in the attached spectra.
Once Plugged, run the FREE Software (There are two free softwares,download the software from the link you will get on the eBay bill) and start acquiring spectra and analyzing light from different light sources.

We share with you some spectra taken with the Optical Fiber spectrometer, you can have an idea about the high sensitivity of the spectrometer by comparing the actual M-Spectrometer to the standard SMA-E Spectrometer! Clear improvement are visible in the comparative spectra :
- Higher sensitivity in the UV region (more than 20 times better)
- gives a smooth response (there is no dip in the sensitivity round 550 nm as in the SMA-E Model : look at the solar spectrum smoothness obtained with the M-Spectrometer.
- Better sensitivity on the overal range of the spectrometer.
Also, the new model lets you have the solar spectrom (difuse light, the direct light will saturate the detector) lets you observe the atmospheric absorption lines of O2, H2O ...
With this USB Spectrometer you can do several experiments, for example:
1- Analyze the light emitted from light sources (see the attached image)
2- Transmission of filters (there is an example of a Clean Line filter and one for a Long Pass filter)
3- Absorbance / Transmittance of substances (oil, colored liquids ... the last picture shows the absorbtion spectrum of Olive Oil)
4- Calibrate the spectrometer to calculate densities
