Title of the map:
"Giuseppe Galli. Teatro della Guerra in Corea e in Manciuria"

It was the first modern war where an Asian power (Japan) defeated a major European empire (Russia). The conflict arose over rival imperial ambitions in Korea and Manchuria. The major battles were Port Arthur, Mukden, Yalu River, and Tsushima (naval). The war ended with Japan’s victory in 1905 and the Treaty of Portsmouth, mediated by U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt. After the war, Japan annexed Korea (1910) and secured influence in southern Manchuria. The map shows in detail the different provinces of Korea.
