This is a 1970-71 Colgate Stamp of the Detroit Red Wings' Hall of Famer, Gordie Howe, stamp #47 in the set of ninety-three stamps. It was produced by the Colgate-Palmolive Company and marketed in three sheets of stamps, each measuring approximately 1" x 1 and 1/4". This stamp of Mr. Howe was on the second sheet and was available with king and super-size toothpaste. The marketing concept was to encourage children to brush their teeth each day with Colgate toothpaste, and the company issued three calendars so that a child could stick a stamp on the calendar each day as a reminder of regular brushing.
The stamp was sent to PSA for authentication and encapsulation/grading. It was authenticated and its grade is EX-MT 6 (Excellent-Mint 6), and the Authentication number is 73274107. PSA has authenticated only 29 of these Gordie Howe stamps. There is a facsimile of Mr. Howe's signature on the stamp.
