WHY YOUR HINGES ARE LOOSE.
They become loose because the holes in the ceramic toilet bowl, through which the metal rods go, are a lot
bigger than the metal rods.
This means that the rods, and therefore the hinges, have room to move about because the standard fittings are not designed to stop this movement.
(THE HOLES CAN BE ANYTHING FROM 9mm TO 20mm DIAMETER)
(12 to 16mm is the norm)
THE CURE
You fill the gaps between the rods and bowl with specially designed NON SLIP rubber fittings. These uniquely shaped fittings are **squeezed** into the gaps, by tightening the wing nuts, they then tightly grip both rod and bowl -- completely eliminating any movement. Also as the rubber fitting is compressed it pulls the hinge tightly down onto the bowl.
A very simple but highly effective and economical solution
These have been fitted on my toilet for 15 years and have seen several toilet seats come and go.

The cone shaped rubber fittings are the only shape of fitting that can guarantee a perfect fit every time regardless of the size of the holes in the toilet bowl.

IMPORTANT NOTE
These fittings are designed to fit the type of hinge shown in one of the pictures.
This type of hinge can have M6 (6mm) or M8 (8mm) fittings.
95% of hinges are M6 (6mm)
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE 6mm & 8mm REFERS TO THE DIAMETER OF THE THREADED RODS.

If you are uncertain as to the size you require then I would suggest that you purchase these 6mm fittings as your fittings are more likely to be of this size.
If, when they arrive, the 6mm fittings do not fit then you can simply purchase the M8 fittings from one of my other listings and return the 6mm fittings for a full refund including P&P charges.

FITTING TIPS

If you wrap a cloth around the threaded bar at the point you want to grip it with the pliers it will provide a far better grip and also protect the thread from damage.
