Signed Donald Crews Lot of 4
These books are all from the private collection of children’s book author Berthe Amoss. Books are inscribed to her.
All from a smoke-free home. But have been in storage so musty and dusty has one would expect. Not enough room to show condition of each book in pictures, so please see pictures but also descriptions below.
1. Freight Train. Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket but no MSRP as this is a library edition. Has Caldecott sticker on front along with library edition sticker. Signed, inscribed, and dated on the first blank page. Author has also used a stamp and some scribbling to suggest animated smoke. Dust jacket has one large tear and some smaller tears, along with some chipping, lots of wrinkling, lots of toning, lots of puckering, and a few other blemishes. Interior has some toning along with some wrinkling and puckering to pages. Boards show some bumping, moderate on a couple corners. And rubbing along edges and corners. Binding is tight. Some spin slant. No writing inside of the book except for the inscription.
2. Parade. Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket with original MSRP of $9.50. Inscribed, dated, and signed by the author on the copyright page. First printing of the first edition. Dust jacket has one hole near bottom of spine along with some chipping, creasing, wrinkling, toning, other small miscellaneous blemishes. Interior has some wrinkling and puckering to pages. Maybe a slight bit of toning. Boards show some dust and some bumping, some rubbing along edges and corners. Binding is tight. No writing inside of the book except for the authors inscription.
3. Harbor. no dust jacket. This book is in the worst condition of them all. Lots of wrinkling and extreme creasing to the interior one page has been torn out as pictured. It is signed on the title page and inscribed and dated. There is also again a stamp by the author with a little scribble to simulate smoke coming from a tugboat. This is a first edition, first printing. Boards shows some bumping, some toning, moderately so. Some darkening especially along spine. Lots of small blemishes. Binding is good. I saw no writing inside of the book, just lots of interior wrinkling and creasing as noted. Overall in only fair condition. The page that has been ripped out is included.
4. Carousel. Hardcover unclipped dust jacket with original MSRP of $9.50. Signed, inscribed, and dated on the copyright page again with a stamp by the author and some scribbling to simulate the motion of a carousel. First edition, first printing. Dust jacket has one small rip and some chipping. Some overspray on it that might have come from Paint. Some scuffing and superficial scratching to the glossy cover. Boards show some moderate bumping especially at spine, some rubbing and bumping at edges and corners. Binding is tight. No writing inside of the book except for the authors inscription. Some waviness to pages.
Overall these books are in acceptable condition but the signatures make these great collectibles from a beloved African-American artist with a highly decorated career as a children’s book author.
Books will be packaged carefully inside of a box and shipped USPS media mail. Thank you for looking and stay safe out there!
