PSA Photograph Type Classification system
Type 1/I - first generation photograph developed from the original negative within 2 years of when the picture was taken. The most desirable and valuable of the four photograph types because of their vintage and originality.

Type 2/II - first generation photograph developed from the original negative more than 2 years after the picture was taken.

Type 3/III - second generation photograph developed from duplicate source for wire transmission within 2 years of when the picture was taken. Commonly referred to as a "wire photo."

Type 4/IV - second generation photograph developed from duplicate source for wire transmission more than 2 years after the picture was taken. Type 4/IV photos are generally issued after 1970.
