Complete 5 volume set in original slipcase of the Itinerary of John Leland’s journey around Britain, Wales, Cornwall and beyond. John Leland (1503-1552), was an English poet and antiquarian, who has been described as the “father of English local history and bibliography”. His written Itinerary provided a unique source of observations and raw materials for many subsequent antiquarians. It was a veritable Tudor "There and Back Again", as Leland traveled and looked through religious libraries, as he was entrusted by the King of England to do so. His notebooks compiled numerous lists of significant or unusual books. His manuscripts were also unique in their depictions of the areas traveled, and his interest in topography and antiquities of his six year journey.
