La Science et la Vie supplement is a wartime political map showing the strategic layout of Europe, Africa, and Asia just before the fall of France. It highlights alliances, colonial possessions, and the military geography of the period. Its value lies in its snapshot of the geopolitical situation right before a major turning point in World war II.



The map shows the movements of the borders of the main belligerents in 1939 (1st September), the borders of Germany, Slovaquia, Hungary, the regions occuped by Italy, the delimitations of the regions occuped by German and Russian armys in Poland, the modification of the border of Latvia. In upper right side, the northern part of Scandinavia.

The legend at the bottom left explains that the neutral countries are in white.
