This exquisite piece of art is an original, hand-painted Master Quality Tibetan Thangka Painting of Simhamukhi, also known as Simhamukha (lion-faced) Dakini/ Vajrayogini. This old painting has been varnished with oils for protection and visual appeal, and it is farmed with traditional silk brocade. Simhamukhi Yogini is a revered deity and yogini within Tibetan Buddhism, belonging to the sacred lineage of wisdom deities known as Dakinis. She is intricately associated with the profound practices of Anuttarayoga Tantra. 

Adorned in profound symbolism, Simhamukhi's form features a body veiled in black, while her countenance embodies the majestic white lion, boasting three vivid yellow eyes that blaze fiercely alongside a gaping mouth. Her visage includes a yellow beard, eyebrows, and upward-flowing hair, capturing a striking and formidable presence. Her divine hands hold potent implements; the right-hand raises a curved knife known as Kartika towards the sky, while the left cradles a skull cup filled with symbolic blood, held close to the heart. Additionally, she carries a Khatvanga staff tipped with a trident, positioned in the bend of her elbow and supported against the shoulder.

 Adorned with a tiara comprised of five skulls, a red scarf, elephant skin, bone ornaments, a lengthy serpent, and a necklace adorned with fifty freshly severed heads, she wears a skirt crafted from tiger skin. Positioned on her left leg with the right leg drawn up, she stands atop a double triangle symbol, symbolizing her triumph over aspects such as the corpse, sun, and a multi-colored lotus seat. Simhamukha embodies a mood of great fierceness, dwelling within the heart of a blazing fire of pristine awareness.

Simhamukhi, also known as Simhamukha Jogini, appears in a fierce yet divine feminine form. While often mistakenly viewed as demonic, her representation signifies a Matrikia or Mamo. This is not because of an inherently evil nature but because her fierce aspect adeptly conquers and neutralizes negative energies. Recognized as a Jnana Dakini, or wisdom goddess, Simhamukhi, according to Jigmed Lingpa (1726-1798), a prominent Nyingmapa master and discoverer of hidden treasure texts (Termas), embodies a Nirmanakaya manifestation, existing within the realms of time and history. In contrast, her Sambhogakaya aspect takes the form of Vajravarahi, while her Dharmakaya aspect represents Samantabhadri, symbolizing the essence of Primordial Wisdom.
