The commemorative coin of the National Bank of Ukraine "Assumption Cathedral in Volodymyr-Volynskyi" with a face value of 5 hryvnias (in a capsule) is part of the series "Spiritual Treasures and Architectural Monuments of Ukraine" and is dedicated to the famous and outstanding monument of spirituality and ancient Russian architecture of the twelfth century in Western Ukraine - the Assumption Cathedral in Volodymyr-Volynskyi.

The first mention of the church dates back to 1160 in the Nikon Chronicle. From the very beginning of its existence, the cathedral became a kind of center of spiritual and social life in Volyn: after its consecration, it became a cathedral, where high-ranking officials were married, agreements were signed at the interstate level, the center of the Orthodox, and later in the eighteenth century - the Greek Catholic Diocese, and also served as a tomb of boyars, princes, and bishops.

Today, the cathedral is considered an outstanding architectural monument of Ukraine and is protected by the state, included in the state register of the National Cultural Heritage.

Description of the coin:

The obverse of the coin is engraved with a fragment of the iconostasis and the royal gate of the Assumption Cathedral, the year of minting (2015), the small State Emblem of Ukraine (left), below which is the inscription "UKRAINE", the denomination of the coin (5 hryvnias) on the right, and the logo of the NBU Mint.

The reverse of the coin depicts the Assumption Cathedral on the right side, with a stylized scene of its foundation above it, the inscription "Assumption Cathedral of the XII century" on the left, and a decorative ornament at the bottom of the coin with the inscription "VOLODYMYR-VOLYNSKY" on the background.
