Vintage Chinese Baoding Balls Silver In Decorated Red Silk Case.

Invented in the northern Chinese city of Baoding, Hebei, dating back to the Ming Dynasty, they purportedly relieve stress, focus the mind and build dexterity and strength in the arms and hands. Baoding balls or Ben Wa balls are metal balls small enough to hold in one hand. They are also known as Chinese Health Balls, excercise balls, meditation balls and medicine balls. Baoding balls are used by rotating two or more balls repeatedly in the hand, touching in a circular motion in your hand. This can improve finger dexterity, range of motion, fine motor skills and increase hand strength before or after an injury.
