Material Description: Alder is a soft hardwood of medium density with low bending strength, shock resistance, and stiffness. Alders tend to machine quite well and are found to be an excellent wood for turning. They also handle nails, screws and gluing well, and can be finely sanded, painted, or stained to a great looking finish. When stained, recommended stain colors to use would be either walnut or cherry to realize that rustic appearance that many enjoy. It should also be noted that once stained Adler tends to dry easily with little to no degradation in size, thus maintaining good dimensional stability when it is fully dried.
